What is  GentleCure Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy?

GentleCure Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy (GentleCure Image-Guided SRT) aids in the treatment of the most common forms of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Every year, there are about 3.6 million new cases of BCC and 1.8 million cases of SCC in the United States alone. The team at Scottsdale Skin Boutique & Dermatology is proud to offer this amazing and alternative technique to traditional surgery.

With extremely accurate delivery, GentleCure Image-Guided SRT does not damage healthy surrounding tissue. This means you can have your skin cancer removed without experiencing the stitches, scars, or risk of infection associated with surgery.

In addition to certain skin cancers, GentleCure Image-Guided SRT can be used to treat keloids. Keloids are formed by scar tissue that grows over a wound. These may develop after surgery or other types of trauma to the skin, such as piercings or even chicken pox. Keloids can be painful and unsightly. Traditional keloid removal involves another surgery, but there is no guarantee a new keloid will not replace the one that was removed. Treatment with GentleCure Image-Guided SRT can prevent a new keloid from forming.

What Can I Expect During GentleCure Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy?

The treatment works by using low levels of X-ray energy to kill the cancer cells and allow normal tissue to grow back in its place. The amount of radiation is small but still strong enough to destroy non-melanoma skin cancer cells.

Unlike Mohs surgery, there is NO cutting, bleeding, scarring, or need for reconstructive surgery. You will not need anesthesia and you can continue with your normal daily activities during the course of treatment.

Possible side effects during treatment include skin inflammation with redness and swelling at the treatment site. These side effects usually go away two to six weeks after treatment is complete.

What Can I Expect after GentleCure Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy?

GentleCure image-guided SRT has a 99% cure rate with minimal side effects. There is a small risk of skin atrophy (thinning of the skin) and pigment changes (changes in color of the skin) at the treatment site, but the chances of that are low. Hair loss can also occur at the treated site. There is less than a 5% chance of developing a secondary skin cancer twenty to forty years after treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for GentleCure Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy?

GentleCure Image-Guided SRT is one of the best skin cancer treatments available for patients who are at a greater risk of complications from surgery. GentleCure Image-Guided SRT is great for those who would prefer a non-surgical treatment, have multiple lesions that need to be treated, or want to avoid the potential side effects of surgery. This effective and painless non-invasive treatment also offers many benefits, including:

  • No anesthesia
  • Treat multiple lesions simultaneously
  • 99% cure rate
  • No incisions
  • No downtime or lifestyle restrictions

While other radiotherapies exist, GentleCure Image-Guided SRT is the only one with ultrasound imaging that lets you and your provider see the cancer inside the body while it is being treated. It does not harm healthy tissue and has a very low risk of infection.

If you have a keloid or non-melanoma skin cancer, GentleCure Image-Guided SRT at Scottsdale Skin Boutique & Dermatology may be right for you. We encourage you to schedule an appointment with one of our expert dermatology providers to discuss your unique concerns.
