What is Microneedling with PRP?

Along with the benefit of microneedling, there is the added advantage of using your own platelet rich plasma (PRP) containing growth factors, platelets, and stem cells to amplify the healing process. A small sample of your blood is drawn from your arm similar to when you donate blood or take a blood test. Then, it is spun down in a centrifuge to separate its components. The PRP is extracted and placed topically onto the area to be treated. Microneedling is performed, enabling the PRP to enter the skin. The platelets organize in the skin releasing a number of growth factors and cytokines to promote healing including attracting immune cells to repair the damaged area and developing new collagen. What are the Benefits of Microneedling with PRP?

Adding platelet rich plasma (PRP) to your microneedling treatment will supercharge the results and decrease the healing time. PRP contains growth factors, platelets, and stem cells that improve the collagen and elastin response in the skin. By bathing the skin in your body’s own natural cytokines, your expected microneedling results are enhanced. Your skin will be smoother with less hyperpigmentation and smaller pores.

What Can I Expect During My Microneedling Treatment?

Prior to treatment, your skin will be gently and thoroughly cleansed to remove makeup, oil, dirt, and residues. To ensure you are as comfortable as possible, a topical numbing agent will then be applied to the targeted areas prior to beginning treatment. If you have decided to use platelet rich plasma, a small sample of your blood will be drawn from your arm, spun down in a centrifuge, and then placed on the skin. Once the skin is numb, the SkinPen microneedling device will be lightly and evenly pressed into the treatment areas.

What Can I Expect after My Microneedling Treatment?

Because microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment, there is no formal downtime or recovery period associated with the treatment session. Most patients report returning back to their normal daily activities including work immediately following their microneedling treatments. Mild redness, peeling, tenderness, and swelling on the treatment area is normal and generally subsides on its own within a week.
