Impetigo is a common and contagious skin infection that typically affects the outer layers of skin on the face, arms, and legs. Impetigo usually manifests in the form of reddish sores that quickly grow, ooze, and crust over with a honey-colored scab. If you believe you or your child has impetigo, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with one of our expert dermatology providers at your earliest convenience.

Bacteria is introduced into the body through a small cut or bug bite and causes sores and blisters on the surface of the skin. While anyone can contract impetigo, patients who are at a higher risk of developing an infection live in warm, humid environments, have a weakened immune system, have skin conditions that cause scrapes and scratches, or already have other chronic skin conditions.
