Microneedling Post Care
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR TREATMENT
- You may expect a certain degree of discomfort, redness, and/or irritation during and after treatment.
- Your treated skin will appear as if you have a moderate to severe sunburn and may feel warm and tighter than usual. This typically diminishes within the same day or within 24 hours.
- You may take acetaminophen (Tylenol) if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort. Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, etc.) These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation. Cold compresses can be applied to any bruises or swelling.
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
- Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water to cleanse the face for the following 72 hours.
- Apply moisturizer at least twice daily, but more frequently to minimize appearance of loose skin.
- By day 2-3, your skin may feel a bit dry. This is normal and will resolve on its own. DO NOT PICK OR PULL ON LOOSE SKIN if this appears. This can increase the risks of color changes in the skin and scarring.
- For the first 48 hours, do not heat the treated skin: no hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, hot pools, hot shower water.
- AVOID extended UV exposure until any redness has subsided. Use sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater daily.
- AVOID strenuous exercise or activity for the next 48 hours. You may resume other normal activity/routine immediately.
- Wait until skin irritation has subsided, typically 4-5 days after treatment, before applying makeup and skin care products (other than moisturizer and sunscreen).
